A 1.5 mile trail climbs 721 feet beginning from the \r\nBlue Ridge Parkway to a wooden platform at the summit with 360 degree view \r\nof the North Caroloina mountains (approx. 40 min hike)\r\n\r\nThe name \'Pisgah\' comes from the Bible (fourth chapter of Deuteronomy) where the \r\nLord ordered Moses to the top of the mountain and told him to look in all directions\r\nrevealing the promised land to the tribes of Israel.\r\n\r\nSimilarities of this mountain and the one on which Moses stood were made by two \r\ndifferent early settlers; James Hall (chaplin of General Griffith Rutherford) and \r\nReverend George Newton."],"p1i0");

stIT("p3i0",["Inspired by Virginia\'s first Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) while they were working \r\non the Skyline Drive through Shenandoah National Park, the Blue Ridge Parkway began\r\nn 1935 as the vision of President Franklin D. Roosevelt to construct a scenic motor way \r\nlinking the Shenandoah and Great Smoky Mountain National Parks. Under the \r\nleadership of Landscape Architect Stanley Abbot it was decided the parkway \r\nshould follow the crest of the southern Appalachian mountains through Virginia \r\nand North Carolina, and be turned over to the federal government to be \r\nadministered by the National Park Service as a park. Although the Parkway \r\ndiffers from the usual national park in its narrow land-holdings (at times shrinking \r\nto a width of only 200ft), it is still managed like any site in the National Park Service.\r\n\r\nThe 469-mile Blue Ridge Parkway was officially dedicated on September 11th 1987, \r\nfifty-two years after the ground breaking, although various sections had already \r\nbeen in use for decades."],"p1i0");

stIT("p5i0",["Ridge forests are found in the Southern Appalachian mountains and are restricted to \r\nhigher elevations with sloping and well drained soils. They contain various tree and \r\nplant species which are characterized by a canopy of maples, oak, ashe, buckeyes, \r\ndogwoods and occasionally hemlocks. The under story is dominated by striped maples, \r\ndogwoods, hydrangeas, mt. laurels and abundant wildflowers in spring and summer \r\nthrough late autumn.\r\n\r\nThe soils on the project are very rich and fertile from many years of a living \r\nforest. There are many boulder outcrops along the slopes surrounding the stream\r\n valleys and along the stream courses which provide rolling water, waterfalls and \r\npools.\r\n\r\nUnique characteristics of the project are Mount Pisgah to the south, a beautiful \r\nhigh point in the Southern Appalachians and South Hominy Valley to the west, a \r\nrural mountain community west of Asheville."],"p1i0");
